A Bump in the Road

So I've been very thankful to have an easy, uneventful pregnancy. No morning sickness, still sleeping pretty well, no horrible aches and pains so far. But last week I did hit my first small bump. I failed my one hour glucose screening before Thanksgiving, then found out last week that I failed the three hour test. I have mild gestational diabetes. It's not a big deal - I just have to test my blood sugar and watch my diet, mostly my carbs. It's been a little challenging figuring out what I can and can't eat but not too bad so far. And I only have 2 months to go. Since gestational diabetes can cause the baby the grow pretty big, that's motivation enough for me to stick to the diet!

Camping while pregnant

To continue my trend of being behind, here's a story about our camping trip the weekend of Halloween. We went with 3 other couples to McKinney Falls in Austin. It's a really nice park, the weather was great, and we had lots of fun. Camping while pregnant wasn't too bad. The only thing I was really worried about was being comfortable while sleeping. We borrowed an air mattress and that helped a lot. My favorite part of the weekend was playing Cranium by lantern while eating s'mores that we had to make over a camp stove thanks to the burn ban. The saddest part of the weekend was that burn ban - camping is not nearly as fun without a campfire! Annie enjoyed the trip too - we think she really likes camping. Here are a few pictures.

Finally....an update

Well I told myself when I started this blog that I would be good about updating it. Maybe from now on I will be....but no guarantees. Mostly I haven't updated because I'm slow about downloading pictures from the camera, and the scanner isn't working so I haven't been able to scan ultrasound pictures. That led me to just not post anything.
Speaking of ultrasound pictures, the big event was back in September and we found out this baby is a boy! We were so excited to find out and we had a fun time with lots of family at the ultrasound appointment. He's healthy so of course we're happy about that too. When we get the scanner working again, I'll definitely post pictures. Here's a picture of my belly. It's from almost a month ago; I need to update that too. But at least it's one picture!

I've grown quite a bit in since this picture so I'll be taking another soon. And I promise to post it on here as soon as I take it!

Baby's First....Hurricane

Baby E has made it through his/her first hurricane! We stayed at our house for Hurricane Ike but lost electricity Friday night. The in-laws got power back Saturday morning so we decided to go over there and we've been here since. We just went to our house about an hour ago and as we were packing up more stuff, the lights came back on. Yay! I'm so glad we had a place to stay while we didn't have electricity. We lost a lot of food from the refrigerator but compared to what other people are facing right now, I can't complain about that. School in my district has been canceled until Thursday, which makes for a short week since I'm only working half the day on Thursday because that's the big ULTRASOUND day! We're very excited and hoping for a cooperative baby.

School, Pants, Fall

So school has started again and going back makes me value summer so much. I actually thought I was ready to get started this year, but that excitement faded fairly quickly. Actually, when I think about it, I really am glad to be back and to see the kids and the people I work with. I'm excited about watching my kids make progress and seeing what they, and I, can accomplish this year. And I hope I can keep that excitement going throughout the year.

A bad thing about going to work every day is that now I have to find things that I can wear, which is becoming more of a challenge. Many of my pants are too tight but maternity pants are too big. By the end of the day I feel like I've grown an extra 2 inches in diameter. At least I can come home and put my gym shorts back on. I've decided that my goal is to weigh the same as M - he's been going to the gym and eating better so he's losing a lot of weight. If he keeps losing and I gain enough, we can meet in the middle. :)

Going back to school also always makes me want fall to be here. Not that we have much of a fall, but there is a change in the weather, and I love so many things about fall. It makes me think of high school football, leaves, those days when you can feel the air getting cooler and less humid...fall is definitely my favorite season. I'm ready to put out fall decorations in the house and wear long sleeves and have a fire in our fire pit. And we're planning to go camping at the beginning of November. When the times comes, I may regret that but I think it will be fine. We just have to borrow an air mattress. We'll take pictures and tell baby E about his/her first camping trip.
