I Love You Kati!

I got tagged by Kara and I think it's time for a new post anyway so here it is!
Rules: Go to your 6th photo file, select your 6th photo, blog about it, then tag 6 friends. I'll add Kara's rules too - The friends you tag have to have a blog, and you can’t tag someone who has already been tagged.

This is my great friend Kati. Sorry for the picture - just following the rules (it could have been worse)! :) We went to Baylor together, and while we were there, we started a Bible study with 2 other college girls and my adopted mom from church. When we all graduated and started going our separate ways, we agreed to meet twice a year for a girls' weekend. So far it's been about 4 years and we've met each fall and spring. Usually we go to Salado and stay in a bed and breakfast. We've also stayed in Waco and Austin, and maybe somewhere else that I'm forgetting. This picture is a random one from fall 2006 on our "African Getaway". We stayed near Burnet in a cabin on a ranch with exotic animals. These girls are some of my best friends, and it's so good to know that even though none of us live in the same place we're all there for each other. I'm so glad we've continued our tradition for almost 5 years, and I hope we can keep it going!

Six Weeks

I'll start by saying I'm a horrible blogger. I have good intentions but for some reason I don't follow through. Oh well. Max is now six weeks old so here's a summary of his first six weeks of life.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th doctor's appointments (yes, that's a lot of visits to the doctor for a six week old - we do like her though!) - At Max's first appointment (4 days), we were sent back to the hospital to have a blood test for bilirubin levels. He was still pretty jaundiced so she wanted to check it out. It came back fine. At his second appointment (2 weeks), he had a shot and had blood taken for the state screen, which he did not enjoy. One of our friends is his nurse, and she didn't enjoy it either. Since he was pretty early and small, we had to go back 2 weeks later for a weight check. So at the third appointment (4 weeks), he weighed 6 lbs 5 oz - he had only gained 3 oz in 2 weeks. The doctor put him on higher calorie formula and told me to nurse him and then give him as much formula as he would take. At the fourth appointment (5 weeks), he weighed 7 lbs 9 oz, and everyone was happy. He weighs over 8 lbs now.

Visitors - We've had lots of visitors - grandparents, great-grandmas, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends. Friends from our church and hometeam brought us meals and visited Max. Aunt Jennifer brought Conner and Caitlyn and we also went to their house. Aunt Ellen came all the way from Indiana. Our most frequent visitors have been Mawmaw and Pawpaw, and Nanny, Grampa and Great-Nanny. Great-Aunt Dana and Great-Grandma Easley came too. Annie really likes it when we have visitors.

We went to a shower, or a "welcome baby party", at my school on Thursday. It was fun to see everyone and they all loved Max. Everyone was so generous - we really appreciate all the planning and the gifts!

I can't believe it's been 6 weeks! Max has changed so much. He looks at us more and likes to look at some of his toys, but his favorite thing to look at is lights. He's starting to smile at us - yay! He still doesn't like to have his diaper changed or take baths, but he's getting better at both. He loves to ride in the car. It's so fun to watch him grow and change.

I started a new photo site - http://mattandemilye.shutterfly.com/. There are tons of pictures of Max from the hospital until now. I'll be better about updating that I hope!
