Max's school Christmas program was a few weeks ago. His class sang "Jingle Bells" and then all the classes sang a few songs together. It was pretty cute and Max did ring his bells, although I'm not sure if he actually sang any. It was hard to get pictures and I tried to video it but it didn't come out too great. Max had fun though and it was fun to see him with his whole class.

Max and the Sidewalk
Max met the sidewalk tonight, with his face, and we all met the local ER.
Matt and Max were playing outside and I was inside cleaning up stuff from supper, doing laundry, etc. I was about to go outside when I heard some screaming. I figured Max just didn't want to come in, but I stepped out into the garage to hear Matt say "Get a towel!". I realized that Max's face was covered in blood. Since it was coming from his mouth and we couldn't really tell what was bleeding, and the entire side of his face started to swell up almost immediately, we decided we should take him to the ER. There's one in the neighborhood right beside us so we headed over there. The lady at the front desk took one look at him and told us to go back to a room and got the nurse, then brought the paperwork. I thought that was great. The doctor was actually the first one to come in and look and said he wanted to get him some pain medicine first and then he'd take a look in his mouth after it kicked in and Max calmed down. The poor nurse had to pretty much get Max in a headlock to give him the pain medicine but it didn't take too long for it to start working. They came back a little bit later, and Max still wasn't too happy but the doctor was able to look and see that it was just his lip. He said he could do a stitch but it would probably be pretty traumatic (for all of us), and the way it's cut it looks like it will heal up fine by itself. So we decided against the stitches. Max will be on antibiotics for a few days to keep it from getting infected. He keeps saying "what's on my mouth?" His whole cheek and nose is scraped up and will definitely be bruised, and the doctor said it's possible that his nose is broken but it wasn't crooked so if it is broken they wouldn't do anything about it anyway. Max got a book from the nice nurse and a popsicle and movie when we got home. We learned 1) that we're glad that the ER is there and that it's nice, 2) our ER copay is $150 (ouch), 3) Tylenol with codeine does not make Max sleepy enough to go to bed easily, even after all that. Hopefully he's not in too much pain for long. It definitely made for an interesting night!

Visiting Santa
We went to see Santa with the cousins at the mall last week. Jennifer and I both hoped that seeing Conner sitting with Santa would help the little kids think it was okay. It kind of worked.
Luckily it was Friday so there weren't many people there. Conner had a 10 minute conversation with Santa while we coaxed Caitlyn and Max to go stand by them. We actually got a pretty good picture. You might not be able to see in this one, but Max is holding on tightly to Lightning McQueen and Finn McMissile. Just in case, you know, Santa makes any sudden moves.
On Sunday we went with some friends to see Santa at Bass Pro Shop. On the way, Max told us he would stand by Santa but not sit with him, and that's what he did. Except that he stood at least 3 feet away. He did kind of smile. And that's more than I can say for Kherington - Jeremy and Lindsay got the classic crying baby picture.
And now off to wrap our very first teacher Christmas presents!

The Christmas Season Begins
We had a nice Thanksgiving with Matt's family and jumped right into Christmas. My mom and I braved the Black Friday crowds Thursday night at Toys R Us (how is it Black Friday when it starts at 9:00 pm Thursday?) and got some good deals. Friday morning we went to a few other places but not too early. That evening we went to the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express. Max liked the train and the model trains inside but unfortunately not Santa. He was excited about seeing Santa and telling him what he wants for Christmas (a camera) but when we actually saw Santa, he wasn't excited anymore.
Tonight at church there was a family story and music night. We sang some Christmas carols, listened to the Christmas story, and ate cookies and drank hot chocolate. Max liked the cookies but got a little bored before it was over. But it was fun to see friends and have some time to reflect.
