Weekend Fun

We've had a nice weekend, and I'm in the mood to blog (which I haven't been motivated to do lately, which might be obvious since it took me a month to post about Max's birthday!). Friday night, we went to hang out with some friends and eat hamburgers. It was a last-minute thing but very nice to just talk and watch the kids play. We all agreed we were glad we just went their house instead of going somewhere to eat because the kids had a lot more fun than they would have at a restaurant and so we got to stay longer!

Saturday we didn't do much. Max had gymnastics but for some reason he didn't want to do anything so we  left early. We just stayed in for the rest of the day. I went to the grocery store and then put together Valentines for Max's school party. I found this idea on Pinterest, and I love how they turned out! I also like that they don't involve candy and that I found the glowsticks 12 for $1 at Dollar Tree and how many kids are in Max's class? Twelve! So I spent $1 on his Valentines! Oh and they were super fast and east to put together! The source for the idea and template is http://theteacherwife.blogspot.com/2011/12/you-make-my-glow-v-day-freebie.html.

We went to church Saturday evening so we had a whole day today and so we went to the Children's Museum. We first planned to go to the zoo but then realized it was barely going to get up to 50 degrees today so we decided to do the museum instead. Apparently everyone else in Houston did too! It was pretty crowded but Max had a good time. He did a little more than he has before. His favorite part is the "city" but usually just because he wants to "drive" the police car and ambulance. But today he actually left those willingly and did everything else there too - cooked in the "cafe," took care of a (stuffed) hamster in the "vet's office," and went grocery shopping. He enjoyed some of the other things more too. He just told me one of his favorite things was flying paper airplanes.

We were supposed to host our small group at our house this evening, but several people were sick and then the rest of us decided that we should just not meet this week. Then it started sleeting so I guess that was a good decision! It was not much sleet, but since that's been the extent of our winter weather this year it was a little exciting!

Sleet on our patio cover - ha!

So we had a nice warm meal of gumbo (thanks to Tony Chachere) and garlic-cheese biscuits and now we're on the couch with blankets while Max watches a movie. There's wood in the fireplace for later, to go with a mug of hot chocolate or a glass of wine...haven't decided which yet! Too bad tomorrow is Monday!

Max turned 3....almost a month ago...

We had a "fireman" birthday party!
The Pecan Grove VFD brought their truck!
Fireman Max

Cousins!
Kherington - she loved the fire truck!

Anthony, Max's school buddy

Max loved having all of his friends at his party, and it was sweet to watch him open his presents and then say thank you to his friends. I thought it would be crazy with the number of kids plus parents that we had, but they all played together well and had lots of fun. We ate pizza and cake. The fire truck was a big hit; I had read that sometimes local fire departments will do things like that so we decided to call ours and sure enough, they said they'd love to. They brought coloring books and hats for all the kids and showed them all of the hoses and everything on the truck. The kids loved getting in the truck. We're grateful to everyone who came to celebrate with Max. It's hard to believe he's 3 already!

Mr. Giraffe

Max's class at school is the Giraffes, so they have a stuffed giraffe they send home with a different kid each weekend. This was Max's weekend. We were supposed to take pictures and tell about what they did with Mr. Giraffe over the weekend. I figured I would just put it on here too.

We had a fun weekend with Mr. Giraffe! Friday night was movie night. Max and Mr. Giraffe watched “Bolt”.

Saturday Mr. Giraffe came to Max’s birthday party. He liked the cake!

On Sunday he went to church with us and then Max took him for a bike ride.

Max picked Panera for his birthday supper, and Mr. Giraffe came along.

Thanks for spending the weekend with us, Mr. Giraffe!

Lightning McQueen

I don't understand how kids learn these things so quickly. This was less than a week after he got the bike, and for most of those days he didn't even have it because we were out of town!

Christmas Time

Max was ready for Christmas this year. He knew he wanted a camera, he understood that Christmas is about Jesus, and he watched The Polar Express about 100 times. We had a lot of fun all throughout December with Christmas activities - seeing Santa, making cookies, Christmas music at church, and Christmas parties.

We celebrated with Matt's family during the day on Christmas Eve. The kids had fun playing and opening their presents. Max and Caitlyn each got bikes and unfortunately it was a rainy day so we couldn't take them out. But in less than 2 weeks Max has become a pro at riding - it's great for us too because we have to run to keep up with him! We went to our church for Christmas Eve service, then home to wait for Santa. Max thought it was fun to put out cookies and milk. We were up a little late because I still hadn't finished wrapping presents. Christmas morning Max was excited to see the presents under the tree. As he was opening each one he asked if it was the camera, and finally he got to that one. We got him the Fisher Price See Yourself digital camera and he loves it. He carries it around and wants to take pictures all the time. Another favorite present was a remote control truck for he and Daddy to play with. After presents and cinnamon rolls we packed up the car to go to my parents' house. We had fun there too. Aunt Ellen was there for plenty of playing. Matt had to come back to go to work on the 27th but Max and I stayed a couple more days. With other people to entertain Max, I had time to read the first 2 books of the Hunger Games trilogy.  It was nice just to relax and not have much to do. It's great to have family close enough that we don't have to do too much traveling and Max can spend lots of time with cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents (and great-grandmas!). I love Christmas and all that comes with it.
