Ow!

One of Max's new favorite words is "ow". The other day he started pinching my shoulder and saying "ow! ow!".  Ironically, over the weekend, he got his biggest "owie" yet when he faceplanted on the patio.
He had a nice circle of road rash right in the middle of his forehead.
"Ow" was not enough to express his pain for this one.

I like this picture because you can see all of Max's teeth. Yes, all 3 of our 16 1/2  month old's teeth. How does the boy eat!? How does he bite into his grilled cheese!?

His other top one is coming in too, and it looks like a couple of the side ones might be close.
But at this rate, he'll be 2 before he gets them!

Camping

We went camping at Lake Livingston for Mother's Day weekend. The weather ended up being really nice - we were afraid we had waited too long and it would be so hot but it turned out great. Max had fun. All he really wants to do right now is walk around so we kind of had to just follow him around the campsite.

Of course he's also at the stage where he wants to go where he wants to go so it's a problem if you try to change his direction. But he is very easily redirected most of the time - his little tantrums only last a few seconds.

Back to camping - we went on a nature walk with a ranger and walked some of the other trails too.

We went down by the lake and met a squirrel who was too friendly for me. He ate from Matt's hand and almost climbed in my lap!

We also took Max's picture on a tree that Matt's parents had taken Matt and his sister's picture on when they were kids. I tried to convince Matt to sit on the tree with Max but he wouldn't.

So it was a fun weekend and we're already looking forward to our next camping trip (which won't be until fall unless we go north!). It will be fun to see what Max is doing next time.

Another great part of the weekend was that when we got back Sunday, I got to go get a pedicure for Mother's Day and came home to flowers and a James Avery ring with Max's birthstone. It was a perfect Mother's Day! Thanks Matt and Max!

Easter Fun

Max's first Easter egg hunt (I seriously struggle with what to capitalize...egg? hunt? both? just egg?)

On Sunday we enjoyed the Easter service at church. Our church started having Saturday Easter services last year, and I love Saturday services. We wish they would have them all the time. But I can't bring myself to go to Easter service on Saturday. I guess it's because it's not actually Easter and I like the feeling of waking up on Sunday and celebrating Jesus's resurrection in fellowship with other believers. So even though it's super crowded we'll probably always go on Sunday mornings.

 "A little help please?"

"That's better"

After church our families and some great friends came over for lunch. Max and Gisele hunted Easter eggs after lunch. Well, Gisele hunted and Max walked around the yard. It was great to spend the day with our families and friends who are like family. I hope we can make it a tradition.

Sweet Sixteen, Not So Sweet Elite Eight

We had a weekend full of basketball, with some Opening Day t-ball thrown into the middle.
We were so happy that Baylor made it to the Sweet 16 and even happier that they played in Houston. Thursday they had open practices at Reliant so we took Max and my mom and grandma to see it. It was fun because we got to sit really close to the court.

Jim Nance was at the practice

Friday night Baylor played St. Mary's and then Duke played Purdue. The BU game was great, and we stayed for about half of Duke-Purdue. We actually ended up sitting in a suite with tickets Matt got through work so that was pretty cool.

Saturday was Opening Day for Matt's nephew. He's been playing t-ball for a few seasons now and really loves it. It's always fun to go watch his games.

Sunday, back to Reliant for the Elite 8. We took Max this time and got to sit in the suite again. We gave our other tickets to some friends and all went together.

Unfortunately they didn't play as well as they had on Friday and just didn't have quite enough to beat Duke. We were definitely disappointed but so proud of the Baylor team and how far they've come. It was a fun weekend...and I just put in an application for Final Four tickets for next year.

UPDATE: The Baylor girls just advanced to the Final Four (by beating Duke)....so the next question is: Do we go to San Antonio??

Spring Break 2010

Spring Break was filled with excitement around here. Not really...Max and I didn't leave the house for 3 days straight (I think that's a record for us). I guess that's not completely true because we did go to the playground one day. The weather was beautiful. We got some work done in the yard and spent a lot of time playing outside. Max progressed from only wanting to walk around the patio to walking in the grass as long as he was holding a hand to being almost fearless. Unfortunately we have to watch out for pesky fire ants. We've been practicing with his Easter basket in preparation for upcoming Easter egg hunts. The two best parts of spring break were going to the livestock show with the cousins, aunt, and MawMaw and the beginning of March Madness. We watched a lot of basketball over the weekend. Thankfully Baylor scraped by and made it into the Sweet Sixteen, and we get to go see them play since they'll be in Houston!
