Fall Wrap-Up

Fall has been busy! We had a lot of fun times. We took our annual trip to Dewberry Farms. This year we went with our good friends, the Andrews, and brought Caitlyn and Mawmaw with us (Aunt Jennifer, Uncle Dan and Conner were at baseball). It was actually a cool day, which we haven't had many of since, and we had a good time. Max really loves all of the activities now; it's been fun to go every year and watch him grow into many of them.

Max was a fireman for Halloween. We went to Zoo Boo, the Children's Museum, and a fall festival to give him plenty of opportunities to wear his costume! We had friends over on Halloween and a few stayed to trick or treat with us. Max loved trick-or-treating this year!

We also went to Baylor Homecoming but I'll save that for the next post!

Meet the Bears

Matt and Max went to Waco for the fall scrimmage back in August. Max got to meet some football players. He was obviously not impressed with Coach Briles.

Apparently the boy can't take a normal picture...

They had a fun day together!

Three Months

Monday was baby J's 3 month birthday and he also left us for another home, with relatives. We're a little sad to see him go but it sounds like a good place for him, and we knew from the beginning that it would most likely turn out to be just a foster placement. He was a sweet baby. He started to not like the car and/or his carseat too much, and it's never fun to drive around with a screaming baby. Other than that he was pretty easy going. He had been sleeping for at least 6, sometimes 8, hours a night for the past couple of weeks. He also loved morning naps and then for the rest of the day he was pretty awake. He had just started smiling and cooing. He really liked baths and being naked - he would smile really big when we changed his clothes. I wish I could post pictures - he was a handsome boy! When we told Max he was going to leave, Max said "No, that's my baby"; then later he said we would get another baby, but according to him it can't be a girl. We'll see what happens there! Overall it was a good experience. We learned a lot about the foster care system and how things work. We've decided not to take any emergency placements right now, just with the busyness of this time of year and work, but we will still be submitted for kids that are either already free for adoption or have that as their plan. We're glad to have had the chance to take care of J for a couple months and hope for the best for him!

Labor Day Camping

We went to Bastrop State Park for an end of summer camping trip. It was a nice trip. J did really well - I don't know if we were brave or crazy to take a 5 week old camping. But having the air-conditioned camper makes a huge difference! Bastrop has a pool too, so Matt and Max spent Saturday afternoon swimming, while J and I just hung out by the pool. It wasn't quite as hot as here and shady enough that we were ok for several hours. The park was also having a special event commemorating the wildfire that went through the area a year ago. The area where we stayed wasn't as badly damaged so there are still a lot of the tall trees but driving around the park we could see other areas where most of the trees are gone. There was a state park firefighter there with his truck so Max got to spray water with his hose and see the truck. We came back Sunday so we'd still have today to get some things done and also because Baylor's first game was Sunday night so we couldn't miss that! Happily they started the season off on the right foot! So it was a nice long weekend all around!

One Month

Two weeks ago we got a call for an emergency foster placement. Today, he turns a month old. He is the sweetest baby. Luckily he's a pretty good sleeper, since I started back to work this week.  He likes tummy time and is staying up for longer during the day, especially in the afternoon. Max likes to tell people about "his baby" and is being a good helper, most of the time. We have no idea what will happen with him but we are happy to have him and love him for now!
